"With all the talk in the media about how tech-savvy today’s kids are, it is still really important to gauge abilities before throwing them into a technology based assignment. Just because kids are great at texting, instant messaging, emailing etcetera, it doesn’t mean they know how to research information or navigate websites."

I completely agree, and you highlight how it is important for teachers to handle even the most basic technology instruction with care and precision.

Nice commentary, Emily, and great to see you're developing that "teacher sense," even if it took until the fourth period :-).

This is so well written and your insights to correct the problems were great. You may have learned more that day than your students but in the long run your future students will benefit from having you as their teacher. I especially liked the leaving your assumptions at the door! Brilliant.

Love the buddy system! Such a good way to not only foster self reliance but also manage a room full of confused kids. Your post makes me miss teaching!

These are powerful lessons! Differentiation and your ideas regarding resiliency fit so nicely together. Each student is truly and individual and we, as teachers, need to treat them as such. Thanks!! (Oh...and the toothbrush is a great point too! =)
